Who Am I

Clinician

I did my orthopaedic training in East Midlands and my foot and ankle fellowship at world renowned Wrightington Hospital.

I have been working as a Consultant at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals (both Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital) since 2017.

I am

Clinical Lead for Orthopaedic Trauma at Royal Victoria Infirmary (Major Trauma Centre).

Orthopaedic Regional lead for Diabetic Foot Conditions especially Charcot Arthropathy.

Clinical Lead for the tertiary referral service at Freeman Hospital for complex neurological foot and ankle deformities.

I attend regular training courses and meetings - national and international - to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.

I perform a lot of my operations as daycase procedures ie operated and discharge home same day. This is only possible as all patients undergoing surgery have 'nerve blocks' (by anaesthetists) for sustained effective pain relief and physiotherapy input making discharge worry free for my patients.

Educator

I am a keen teacher and trainer and current roles include

Faculty member for National AO Courses for Orthopaedic Training.

Trainer for orthopaedic trainees in the region.

Faculty member of various regional and national foot and ankle training courses.

Departmental Lead superviser for medical students from Newcastle University and medical electives (both national and international) at the department.

Researcher

I have been and also currently am lead for multi centre national trials that include AIR (Ankle Injury Rehabilitation) and FAME (Fractured Ankle Management Evaluation). Currently actively involved in multiple research projects involving Total Ankle Replacements, Diabetic Foot and Forefoot Conditions.
